Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Thermal Transfer and Direct Thermal printing?

Thermal transfer printers require the use of a carbon ribbon which gets transferred onto the substrate (or label) via heat, hence the name "thermal transfer." Direct Thermal printers, on the other hand, require the use of heat activated thermal papers and films, but require no ribbon. The print color is limited to black, and the printing is not as crisp as that of thermal transfer ribbon printing.

*Label Solutions carries a variety of Thermal transfer labels, ribbon and Direct thermal labels to meet your needs. Please let us know if you have any questions as to what labels and/or ribbons to use with your current printer.

What is the difference between permanent and removable adhesive?

Permanent adhesive is an all-temperature adhesive used in applications where the label will not need to come off, the adhesive is binding and the label can tear if removed; leaving residue on the surface. Removable adhesive is strong enough to adhere to a surface but will not leave behind any residue when removed. The label will stay in-tact and peel away cleanly if removed.

*Label Solutions carries a variety of adhesives for use in numerous applications. Adhesives such as permanent, removable, freezer and adhesives for wood, metal, glass, plastic, etc. just to name a few. Please let us know if you have a specific application challenge or need and we'll be happy to identify and provide the proper adhesive (and label) for you!

What is "freezer" adhesive?

Freezer adhesive is used in a cold temperature environment so that labels stick to frozen packages, boxes, etc. It provides good ambient or room temperature performance and excellent cold temperature performance. The minimum application temperature is as low as -20 degrees F and will perform in temperatures as low as -65 degrees F.

*Label Solutions is proud to be a major supplier of freezer adhesive labels for Americold Logistics, LLC (www.americoldrealty.com); the largest provider of temperature-controlled food distribution services in the country.

Are there different colors of labels other than white?

Yes. We carry a variety of pastel colored labels that customers use to clearly mark and identify boxes, packaging, etc. We also have the ability to print any PMS (Pantone Matching System) color should you need an exact match. Whether it's pastel, metallic or a specific color you need, just ask and we'll be happy to assist you!

What is the definition of flexography or offset printing?

Flexography is a system of printing on a rotary or offset press using water-based ink. Offset is a technique in which the printing plate is imprinted on a rubber cylinder and then transferred (offset) to a paper, vinyl or other material. Once the image is transferred to the material it dries and then the label is die cut in a specific size to match the imprint.

*Label Solutions uses flexographic technology on several offset presses to print labels in all quantities.

What sizes of labels do you provide?

Label Solutions carries a variety of shapes and dies (label cuts) in stock to meet your needs. Just let us know the exact dimensions (W x H in inches) you need and we'll be happy to assist you. We can also order exact tooling in should we not have the label size you're looking for.
